It's taken me a very long time to realise this. If you park outside in frosty weather watch how you position your car. Park it facing east if you can. Then it gets the first of any sunshine and that helps clear the windscreen of frost and ice. Or if you have enough space in your driveway and, like me, don't use the car before mid morning park it in a position that the screen gets the best of any sunshine during the morning. This saves running the engine and fan to clear the windows.
In fact I use a windscreen cover from Lidl and during the recent, and continuing, cold spell I've placed the car so the driver's side window and exterior mirror is cleared by any heat from the sun.
