Nice one Steve. Still no driving for me except for a short trip in the Jazz in pouring rain for fish & chips last night!

Logged out when I tried to attach some pictures from an incredible and unbelievable Gymfest at Irvine yesterday so - 126 miles and 61.7 mpg in terrible weather. On target for 63 mpg from last partial fill up.

Just a note, if you ever hear of a Gymfest near you go for it. Fantastic jaw dropping entertainment

Frv, you must be feeling a bit of financial pain with the VW (or is is Audi). Your fuel bill looks to be something like 15% higher compared with the bigger and roomier Honda.

Any regrets?

Hi TE, in actual MPG terms the Audi is less efficient than the FR-V as I knew it would be - my aim was to move away from diesel, get a smaller car now eldest daughter's have left home (one to Uni and one to her own house) but buy something that woulkd do at leat 50mpg even on my commute which the A3 has achieved in spades. In the Honda I was spending on average £736 / year. So far in the A3 I have spent £515 since 12/7/15 so I'm on track to actually spend less due mostly to the reduction in petrol prices we have seen of late (although creeping up now they are still low).

I am actually getting better MPG in the A3 than the first 5 years in the FR-V, it was only the last 4 years ownership in the Honda that I got the yearly average MPG to the heady heights of the 60's through the use of more extreme hypermiling techniques. I definitely find the Audi Auto a much easier drive and it feels extremely well put together (time will tell) and I love the Cylinder-on-Demand technology, it can pull some great numbers in certain situations. It holds the road better than the Honda (not surprising really!), it much quieter and when required there is more power on tap and the satnav and parking sensors front and back are excellent.

All in all I am very pleased with the Audi A3 Sportback, I still feel I made the right choice :D

Dropped car sharer off at other end of his dead-end road (he can get to his house through an alleyway!) so I could carry on to petrol station for a fill. Brimmed it so MPG a couple lower than than my usual 2 click fill - managed to put in more litres than tank is supposed to hold again!:

Going home Thursday evening, 3UP (middle daughter came home), detour #2 then stupid busy, lots of queuing and more detours, 21°C:

Friday morning, 8.5°C, great run:
60.9 / 22.5 (Indicated 64.1) :D

I follow your reasoning but a smaller car with kids at university. I see van hires in prospect.

Thinking of uni expenses I feel that with your Scottish ancestry and financial acumen a major cash saving opportunity has went begging. Assuming you have relatives in Nicola land with the same surname they could have applied from a Scottish address and the Scottish government would have paid their fees. I know there are rules but from knowledge and experience the rules are very elastic. Maybe not too late if they are in the first or second years. Another thing that applies in Scotland but I don't know about Englandshire; when a uni application is made ALWAYS claim an honours degree is planned. In that way if they do decide to go for honours after achieving a plain vanilla degree the government will pay. If, however, the decide to go for honours later then they will have to pay for the extra study. Sadly, as I know personally, the government will not pay fees for study towards a Masters; bugger, bugger, bugger.

On the mpg front. I (partially) filled up last week. The true mpg for the previous fill was 62.1 with an indicated range of 48 at the time of filling. For the 90 miles since then I have an indicated 67.9 which is a true 63.4. I hope to keep it going at that.

Filled up the old skool Golf and got a new best tank of 475.9 miles. Will aim for 500 now.
Fuelly says that's 39.9mpg (previous tanks were 36 & 37mpg) - summer must be here!
Fuel computer read 40.7mpg so 2% over.
Manufacturers mpg is 34

MOT is next Monday - keep everything crossed!

Touran will most definitely emerge from the garage in mid-june to be loaded with bikes for a lads coast to coast cycle ride :D
2008 Touran 1.9 SE - best tank 752 miles
2000 Golf GTI - best tank 475.9 miles
Retired - 2013 Clio dCi 88 - 32 fill-ups (27,631 miles) @ 68.6mpg average
