Is it worth it.

Let’s be cynical.

An offer email from Morrisons today for 5 pence off per litre valid until 15th September. I might, just might need to fill up before then with, typically 50 litres so a saving of £2.50. Since we have a Morrisons card this might rise to £3.00 although 50p would be for shopping in Morrisons. Then if I use the MD’s Barclaycard the reward might give another 50p in shopping vouchers.

But £40 must be spent in the shop. WE are both well retired and have no need to buy £40 worth of groceries in the next 5 days and even if we did it would not necessarily be at Morrisons. We have an Aldi and a Lidl within walking distance and the nearest Morrisons is 4 miles away (OK we could use our bus passes if you want to be cynical).

For the one fill per month we normally use if the 5p offer coincided with our shopping every month our saving could be (maybe) £30ish per year. In reality it is likely to be much less. By the way there is a nearby Asda (3 miles) that is usually 0.5p cheaper than Morrisons.

Is a 5p off offer actually worthwhile.

My Sportage is still chugging happily along at over 60 mpg. Filled up today. 54.1 litres of from Asda at 1.267 and a total of £68. Actual mpg from the last fill was 61.6 with the car computer showing 63.1. 733 recorded miles and I could have run on to 750 but I had a long cross country run today. What in fact happened was 105 miles with 67.2 mpg showing on the gauge.
