How can we improve Hypermiler.co.uk

Postby Karl » Mon Dec 07, 2009 2:14 pm

I am really pleased with the way the site membership has been building recently and also on the great posts that have been gracing the forum. Obviously the site isn't just for my benefit so I would really like to know how the site can be improved for you guys. It could be something really simple like a quick reply text box (already on the way) or something bigger or a completely new direction.

This kind of site is the only one that I know of in the UK and I would really like to make it much bigger with a lot more people participating in the forum.

Your ideas would be much appreciated.

The only thing I could think of off the top of my head would be moving the create account button onto the forum as at the moment it is a bit hard to find. Of course as you are plagued by spammers that may be that way for a reason...

I added a section of the forum dedicated to the registration process yesterday - do you think that stands out enough to see it?

Well it is noticeable, so that's good. I had to search a little but then I am browsing on my iPhone, so not the largest screen in the world!

A thought for the site as a whole - you might want to see if any of the American hypermiling sites would be happy exchanging links,as when I was looking for hypermiling sites I bumped across their sites first.

I have been working on all the SEO (search engine optimisation) on the site for a very long time.

I've busted my butt getting the site to 3rd on a search for "Hypermiling" and 1st on "Hypermiler" but the problem is that there is alot of competition. I really wish it was that easy - if you link to nother hypermiling site and they link back you help them too.

Its all about the inbound links from other sites and the quality of those sites - so if you get an oportunity to link to this site on another forum or page - please do.

As for the searches - what keyword did you search on that helped you find this site?

I think I searched on hypermiling to start off with, and the hypermiling on UK only pages - hence finding the American sites first. Could be mistaken though as it was a while back I found it.

It seems that the site is slowly getting more interest and visitors.I am looking some improvements in the CMS system and a slight redesign but other than that I am a bit stuck.

I have been thinking about ways to help improve the site, if you have any ideas then please let me know.

Well, the changes have been made and visitor numbers are through the roof.

Still looking for ideas on to help improve the site even more. Just hoping to get some more forum users to liven things up in here.
