66.5mpg is a superb 29.4% over man. combined figure, a smidgen more and you're into the 30+% bracket - you can do it, especially as it warms up....

Well another tank and its 66 mpg, 0.5 less than the last one
I blame the snow last friday, had to take a detour through snowcoverd ungritted roads which I had never driven before, heaters and headlights+fog lights thats my story and in sticking to it!

mabe next time ill get more but i think perhaps 66ish mpg is the limit or what i can do with a 'stock' car, as in no weight saving being done etc.
Perhaps time to start thinking about splitting my fuel ups to save some weight and add them all when it works out as a full tank.

I'm sure you'll do even better when it warms up - makes a big difference to me!
My 2 best tanks have both come in Aug/Sept and May onwards I usually get at least 5% better mpg than average for winter. 70 is calling

Driving EVEN SLOWER THAN NORMAL GOT ME:-
73.x Mpg!

A fair bit of night driving with nobody on the road+ me testing an idea of trying to keep as close to +50% of engine idle speed has really paid off!
for my car that was 1200 rpm, for as much as possible, although obviously that wasn't always possible all the time and I did have some spirited runs to give the engine a shakedown.
It would be kinda hard for me to explain why I thought +50% idle engine would be a good target but it seems to have worked out very well!
[diminishing returns on air and fuel consumption, extra heat being generated then wasted, extra internal friction+ external drag etc etc, im an engineer so this all floats about in my head alot]

I had to stop and fill up 10litres early on this tank tho as i had some of those tesco fuel save things to use which expire today, only 4pence a litre but it helps bring the avg cost per mile down. I shall have to work out what my range would have been

I shall have to try and repeat this again! ^^

+42.6% over the factory 51.4mpg ironically I was re-listening to the original BBC Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy on the way, perhaps...... a sign?

Well, after a few ups and downs in mpg being tracked, and oddly getting the exact same 73.7 mpg on a tank ive managed to eek out another .4 mpg out of my car bringing my new best to 74.2mpg and now im down to 9.4 pence per mile

Adding a towbar and roof rack in a few weeks, that will probably make a bit of a dent in whats possible, will be interesting to see...

Nah, I failed at bangernomics and fell in love with my car after a few years, market value only matters if your planning on selling you car,im not and being a focus parts are plentiful,cheap and even my 5yr old knows how to fit them
Foglights were free and the roof rails I got out of a breakers yard were £10, and the whole tow bar assembly+ electrics I got on ebay for 99p!!
I checked out the thule site and to buy the tow bar new would be £450+vat and fitting .
