They rang up and said it was built and I could pick it up early so here it is.
I'm just working out how to fit the cycle computer

Great thanks. It's definitely faster than my old bike, I got over 30mph this morning on a slight decline and was still doing 26 on the flat according to speed sign (confirmed my bike computer calibration!) on the way to the allotment.
I'm actually using the gears a lot more and dropped onto middle cog a few times too.
I may invest in some toe clips, I had some on old bike. I need to lift seat up a bit more but otherwise it rides well, cheers

Went to allotment again on the bike last night. I'm definitely faster on this bike although the bike computer may be egging me on a bit
Not going hell for leather but at a fair lick I can get there in under 6mins now and under 7mins back
- it's 1.8miles so I'm averaging over 18mph going and I have a set of lights to get through (I usually dismount and walk across if the timing is off).
It used to take me 7.5mins going and 8 back.
The LRR tyres look knobblier than the city slickers on my old bike but they grip really well without loads of noise.
I've got them pumped up to 65psi (max sidewall) with my new Joe Blow floor bike pump.

It was a tad warm today 29 °C . Went up to the chemist on the bike after I'd lifted the seat up a bit higher still. Just over 5 miles round trip.
Popped into local Halfords on the way back to ask about toe clips and they gave me some - said I should have got some with the bike - result! Just fitted them and given them a try.

Have you ever tried SPDs? If you do try them, the first 2 or 3 rides is always a laugh because you're bound to forget to clip out sooner or later & will end up falling over in a humiliating way in front of everyone... (I reset the tension to the minimum to make it easy to unclip in a hurry, also I use the multi-release cleats not the normal ones).

No Mike, never tried them. On many of my trips I have walking boots on as I go to my allotment a lot on the bike. Are they interchangeable with normal pedals or is that a lot of messing about?
I tend to use the bike to go places than for leisure to save taking the car.

Well, you can get ones which have both a cage (so you can use normal shoes), and the spds in the centre (which clip onto the cycling shoes which have a cleat at the bottom). The cycling shoes are OK to walk in as long as you get the mountain-bike version of SPDs.
You can swap the pedals over relatively easily, but it would be a pain to do regularly.
