Gents,
Thanks for you kind words.
I find that neutral coasting down steep motorway hills gives a small mpg gain, while lifting off and in-gear coasting to junctions/roundabouts is another beneficial measure.
When travelling on motorways I regularly draft lorries travelling at between 52-55mph, but always maintaining a two second stopping distance.
Today I broke another economy record, that is the most miles travelled on a tank of diesel. My Superb has a 60 litre (13.20 gallon) fuel tank which today enabled me to cover 933.60 miles, some 25.80 miles greater than my last best range figure of 907.80 miles. I should add that this figure was achieved by taking the needle some 51.60 miles past the "0 miles range" notice displayed on the trip computer. I usually safely reckon on an easy 50 miles past zero range, especially if I'm driving on a motorway at a consistent speed.
I was nowhere near a source of cheap fuel, therefore, I refilled from a 10 litre can carried for roadside refueling.By my reckoning, even assuming 13.20 gallons was required to brim the tank, the mpg for my last tankful results in at least 70.73mpg. In reality, I reckon I still had a litre or two, therefore, this would actually improve the already impressive mpg figure.
