It seems that not a day goes by without claims of the next big thing that will be fueling our cars in the future. With oil at a premium and peak oil in the not to distance future the race to find alternative fuels without compromises is big news and business. Car insurance comparison website moneysupermarket.com has put together a great infographic that helps put together the jigsaw that is alternative fuels. From Hydrogen to Bioethanol, its a complete rundown on how are cars could be powered when the oil finally runs out for good.

Many alternatively fueled cars are still too expensive and out of each of many that rely on their cars for day to day commuting and long distance travel. Cars such as the Vauxhall Ampera that offer the best of both both worlds. As a plug-in EV it gives a range of up to 50 miles with a further 310 miles using it’s petrol fueled generator that powers its electric drive train.  At a whopping  £37,250 before discounting the £5,000 plug-in car grant (PICG) its well beyond the reach of many.
